The objective of Fogra Forschungsgesellschaft Druck e.V. (Fogra Graphic Technology and Research Association) is to promote print engineering and its future-oriented technologies in the fields of research and development, and to enable the printing industry to utilise the results of this activity.

What is Fogra?

To this end the association maintains its own institute with about 60 staff members including engineers, chemists and physicists. Other activities consist of technical reports, contract research, the provision of quality control devices, professional training and a literature database. Fogra has about 700 members. About two-thirds of them are in the printing business operating in fields ranging from prepress to bookbinding while the remaining third are suppliers. Some 30% of the members are based outside Germany. The Technical Committees, responsible for various specialist areas, are at the core of Fogra.

It is in these committees that specialists from member businesses and Fogra staff identify issues from everyday practice. The committees thus perform a creative, monitoring and business-related function. Fogra protects and promotes the interests of its members within the framework of standardisation. It is also represented in numerous standards bodies. Fogra provides the Chairman of the International Standardization Organisation [ISO] Technical Committee 130 Graphic Technology. Furthermore, two of its staff lead two of this Technical Committee's work groups, whose tasks include standardisation in the areas of prepress data exchange, process control, measuring technology and machine safety.
